SEARCH BAR

The search bar is a major component to Filterfish. It provides the text and scope for a filter.

1. Opening up search

- Single-Tap the search bar to activate the filter function which pops up the keyboard.

- Type in any alpha-numeric character to filter all your contacts by this character.

2. Narrowing the scope of the search

- Single-Tap one of the search scope buttons to filter by 'Name', "Company', Telephone/Email' or all of these four combined.

- Yes, it will search by telephone number, '212' or '011'

- Yes, it will search all of the associated telephone and email address, not just the top one.

- Yes, it will search in its foreign language. Japanese, Korean, Russian, Greek, etc.

- Search strings are case-insensitive and position-insensitive. Case-insensitive just means lowercase and uppercase are treated as one and the same. Position-insensitive means that 'f' or 'fi' or 'fis' is matched to not only in the beginning of a field, but also within the field. Thus, 'a' will find 'Adam', 'Alan' and also 'Mark'. However, a higher point given to those matching the first letters. Given the 'a' example, 'Adam' will receive a higher filter point than 'Mark'.

- The space balls activate and reposition on each newly entered character.

- Simply tap the background once to remove all filters, described in finger functions.

NOTE: All 20-odd address fields are not filtered since such search would take considerable time. The top four most likely fields have been chosen for performance reasons in an animated environment on a hand-held device.
